June 4 2014 The Taos Blizzard defeated the White Sands Pupfish 15-9 in a high-scoring game at Taos Tundra. Taos collected 16 hits and built an early 8-5 lead after two innings before adding four runs in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth. White Sands scored four times in the ninth but could not complete the comeback.
Brandon Cooksey powered the Blizzard offense with two hits and four RBIs, including a home run. J. Hunt also homered, scored three runs and finished with three hits and two RBIs. D. SanFelippo scored three runs and stole two bases, while Steven Taft added three hits and three runs. Taos had five home runs in the game as listed in the box score, including Cooksey’s and Hunt’s.
White Sands was led by Michael Brandi, who went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, and Yermin Mercedes, who had three hits and two runs. Tommy Fleckenstein hit a home run and drove in three runs. The Pupfish also received 11 hits from their lineup, with four runs in the ninth inning.
Dayron Silva Perez earned the win for Taos after allowing 12 hits and five runs over eight innings, with two earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts. E. Kirsch worked the ninth, allowing three hits and four runs. White Sands starter V. Littleman allowed four runs in two innings, and Mike DeLong tossed one scoreless inning. Joe McCarthy was credited with the loss.
